HDMI

"High Definition Multi-Media Interface" - developed by Silicon Image (SI) - will be considered standard in the future for DVD players, digital televisions, set-top boxes, and other digital A/V products, as well as for PC's. That will mean, more than anything, curtains for the cable salad one has at home, transfer of data without loss and that all the devices, with the appropriate interface, will be compatible with each other.

HDMI transmits not only digital video, (picture data), but also digital audio data in an integrated cable with a 19-pole miniature plug. Due to the extremely high data transmitter rate (up to 5GB/sec), transmitter driven artifacts, even with complex picture content and very fast motion sequences, will be a thing of the past. With "PanelLink Cinema", Silicon Image presents HDMI extended to include copy protection.
