AC3
The Dolby laboratories developed the AC3 coding as a new technology to data-compress sound signals. Dolby Digital is just now in the process of installing this technology. AC3 provides a constant data compression of 348kBit/s. At the same time, the sounds that are no longer able to be heard by humans are filtered out. An appropriate Surround-Decoder (Dolby Digital, DTS) now ensures cinema-like surround sound.
