Room design
Before I start: nothing is impossible! There is the absolute HomeCinema enthusiast, who would even tear down walls to install an automatic projector screens and to install the boxes in the walls at the same time. We don't quite want to go that far here. All the same: HomeCinema is a decision that will change the room that you wish to experience this fantastic world in. Room design and technical requirements must be coordinated as best as possible.
First question: Where do you want your home cinema installed?
Second question: Will the projector and screen have permanent places?
Third question: Are you a sound perfectionist?
First question: Where do you want your home cinema installed?
This depends first of all a lot on the positioning of the projector and the screen. Deciding factors are the projection possibilities of the projector and the possible size of the screen. The tape measure is simply all that you need here. It tells you how large your cinema will be. Pay attention to the projecting distance of the projector when purchasing. It is advantageous in any case to have a zoom function with an appropriate focusing of the objective.
Choose the size of the screen depending on the viewing distance. The choice of the format of the screen depends a lot on what the viewer wishes to watch. (TV or game console format 4:3, cinema format 16:9)
Wichtig ist außerdem, ob Sie den Raum abdunkeln können. Dies hat unmittelbaren Einfluss auf die Bildqualität und muss bei der Auswahl des Projektors berücksichtigt werden.
Second question: Will the projector and screen have permanent places?
That means, should the projector be permanently mounted? Standing somewhere or would it be better on the ceiling? Pay attention to the connections and Wiring possibilities when choosing the projector. The distance of the devices to be connected to the projector should not be underestimated. At all times, go for high quality connectors.
When installing the projector on the ceiling, it must be well positioned. Take into account where the fan of the projector is. It must have a definite distance to the wall otherwise the accumulated heat will become too high. In addition, it is important whether you can control the projector with the remote control. Otherwise, you would have to change formats under the ceiling for example.
Make sure you choose a low noise fan. Loud background noises disturb a lot.
Avoid, when possible, slanted projectors. Correcting these projectors worsens picture quality by the reduction of the resolution.
The choice of the projector screen depends on the size and the workmanship. Fix-frame screens are basically better than pull-down ones. If you choose a pull-down screen due to the situation of the room, do make sure that you can roll it down and up whether manually or automatically.
Third question: Are you a sound perfectionist?
Nothing is as worse as a droning sub-woofer or bass tones that engulf each other and remain ineffective. You'll have just as little fun with a cheap system. The more expensive the components, the more and longer the fun you'll have.
For rented accommodation, Dolby Digital and DTS systems are absolutely sufficient. Don't let yourself be influenced too much by the volume of the system as it won't be possible to make full use of this sound volume for any length of time in rented accommodation.
Surround systems should be measured by qualified personnel. After which, you have a free hand to try out the best box positioning yourself to get the best sound out.
Also consider that a surround system needs quite a lot of Wiring. You should not penny-pinch on them or start experimenting with any kind of lines. In addition to possible damage to the loudspeakers, the sound will probably suffer.
Do put mufflers under the boxes if they are going to be positioned on the floor. You avoid the resonance that would be transmitted from the floor and walls.
Make sure at all costs that you get the right connectors.
Last but not least:
If you'd like to go the "Full Monty", then install the perfect ambiance for the total cinema atmosphere into your own four walls!
The right "flair" comes with cinema posters, cinema seats, a real cinema curtain, and perhaps even a popcorn machine to round it off.
